Estimate, not tax advice. CASS on dividends is a fixed amount per bracket (not a percentage of every leu), set on cumulative income from dividends + rental + interest + other investments. If the distribution was approved by a General Meeting (AGA) resolution before 1 January 2026, the old 10% rate still applies, not 16% — check the date of the resolution, not the payment date.
How dividend tax is calculated
The tax is 16% of the gross dividend, withheld at source by the company, for distributions approved starting 1 January 2026 (up from 10%). Separately, if your net dividend income, combined with other income from rentals or investments, exceeds 24,300 lei/year, you also owe CASS — but not as a percentage: as a fixed amount: 2,430 lei above 6 minimum wages, 4,860 lei above 12, or 9,720 lei above 24 minimum wages, which is also the maximum cap for this type of income.
